Board of Missions
The Board of Missions is responsible for five special collections throughout the church year. For members of the American Baptist Church, there are three: America for Christ, World Missions, and Retired Ministers and Missionaries. The three special offering for the United Church of Christ members are: Neighbors in Need, Strenthen the Church, and Veters of the Cross (Christmas Fund). The other two special collections are given for Blankets (January) and One Great Hour of Sharing (March). Both of these go to Church World Service, an ecumenical organization which sends aid throughout the world for disease, hunger and relief.
In January 2010, another special appeal went out for Haiti. The offering came from both the ABC and the UCC members. The funds collected went to Church World Service. They were collected throught the winter and spring months.
Another mission related activity is carried out by the members of the Women’s Fellowship through the Baptist Church’s White Cross work. Funds go to an assigned country; kits are purchased for the Philippines, bandages are prepared for the Congo and each year an assignment is given for an overland mission which is filled by purchasing the requested items or sending money to the agency specified.
